Welcome to Momentum, a full-sized quarterly magazine devoted to traditional forms of poetry.

We are looking for metrical poetry, where the metre is a constraint, rather than a goal, with more than one moment to the poem. Dense explorations of a single moment are also welcome. Poetry is more than just pretty words; we are looking for poetry that communicates. Poetry whose evoked moments present resolution, hope, striving, or the enactment of virtuous conduct will be considered ahead of poetry that evokes sentiment without direction or resolution.

A poetry magazine should be more than one poem. It should have variety; it should be a bouquet rather than a rosebush. We are interested in both short and long poetry. To print a poem longer than 1000 lines, we have to be very impressed.

We are also interested in essays on matters poetical, of 2000-3000 words. Shorter substantive correspondence in response to published essays is also welcome.

Electronic submissions to momentum@piglet.org. ASCII (Unix) or Rich Text Format only. No Word files (export to RTF, please). You must name the metre used in any poetry submissions.

Payment on acceptance of 20 cents (U.S.) per line, poetry; 2 cents per word, prose. Two copies of the issue on publication. Subscriptions are $24 for 4 issues.

Simultaneous submissions of poetry accepted, please be courteous and let us know. Reprints also accepted, however please check your contract with the other instance(s) of publication for re-print clauses and exclusivity periods, etc., and clearly label your submission as a reprint. Translations are also accepted, if they work as a poem. Translations must also be clearly labelled and be your own work to which you hold the undiminished and undisputed copyright.

Print (paper) rights revert to the author on publication. We will be putting up back issues on the world-wide web, and reserve the right to electronically publish poems wholly or partly, and essays wholly, partly or in abstract. Electronic publication rights are non-exclusive; if you have them up on your own web page, great. (We would appreciate a link to our web site from any poems so published.)
